Building a new storytelling format for Pew
While Pew Research Center has long been recognized for its data and methodology, few outside the organization understood how that research actually works. To bridge that gap, we created Methods 101 — Pew’s first-ever explainer video series designed to make our complex research methods accessible, transparent, and engaging. And since then, the Center's video strategy has gone through various iterations to meet an ever-evolving online audience.
Our goal was to translate technical research concepts into simple, visual narratives that could live across platforms — YouTube, social, and the Pew website. The videos needed to earn trust with existing audiences while introducing Pew to new ones who learn visually rather than through text-heavy reports.
My role and collaboration
As Pew’s first in-house video producer, I led the creative and production process end to end: concept development, scripting, directing, editing, and distribution. I collaborated with researchers, writers, and editors to ensure each episode maintained methodological rigor while delivering clarity and approachability.
